The Ride

It was the late 1970's when a small group of cyclists in Austin, TX decided to take on a unique challenge and satisfy a desire for their two favorite things... riding bikes and drinking great tasting beer. It was at that moment in time when the Great Austin to Shiner Pedal was born. Throughout the years GASP has evolved into one of the biggest, best bike rides in the state of Texas and beyond while at the same time ensuring the small town feel of its roots are not lost. Get ready to hop and your bike, ride a pretty long way and have a great time. We'll see you in Shiner!

Post-Ride

After cyclists cross the finish line at the Spoetzl Brewery, an afternoon of music and food and, of course, ice cold Shiner Beer awaits! We'll have shower trucks set up so you can rinse off and change clothes. Enjoy a little more Shiner hospitality by taking a free tour of the historic Spoetzl Brewery. Free tours of the Spoetzl Brewery will be conducted from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

For those who started in Austin, you can catch a bus back to the MET Center. Bus fee is $35 and includes bike transport back to the start. Bikes will be carefully wrapped with bubble wrap and loaded on big rigs. Please put your bike in the big rig that has your bus # on it. Ie. If you're on Bus #3, look for the sign on the tractor trailer rig that has Bus #3. This will help bikes arrive at about the same time as the bus containing the owner of the bike. Bus reservations will be taken until buses are sold out (usually 2 weeks prior to the ride).

Food & Drink

All registered cyclists will be provided with food from the Shiner BBQ team. There will also be vegetarian options. There will be multiple food stations to minimize wait time in food lines.

Purchase a Food and Beverage Pass for each additional person joining you in Shiner along with your ride registration so they can enjoy food and beverages. The cost of the Food and Beverage pass is $20 and they can be purchased either online or at the info tent at the brewery on the day of the ride. Children 12 & under are eligible for a free pass.

Music & Entertainment

While relaxing and enjoying some ice cold Shiner Beer enjoy live music from the band The Emotions.

Showers

We'll have shower trucks set up so you can rinse off, change clothes and enjoy the festivities. Shower space is allocated on a percentage equal to male and female registered riders. (ie. If 40% of the riders are female, then 40% of the stalls will be allocated for female use.)

Return Buses

For the 100 mile riders, after your ride and an afternoon of food, fun, and sun, let someone else take you home! For a $35 fee, you can reserve your spot on an air conditioned luxury bus that will take you back to Austin! Only Riders will be allowed on bus.

You will purchase bus tickets based on your desired departure time. Bus tickets are first come, first serve. You must have the correct wrist band to get on your specific bus. You must be prepared to leave at your scheduled time. We will do our best to ensure that the rigs hauling your bikes back to the start will depart at the same time as your bus.

Austin Buses:

  • 3:30 pm Bus 1,2
  • 4:30 pm Bus 3,4,5
  • 5:30 pm Bus 6,7,8

*Schedule may be altered based on rider demand. We will post when buses are full on our website, Facebook and/or Twitter. Place your bike on the correct big rig to ensure your bike arrives about the same time you do back at your start.

Parking

Parking is available near Spoetzl Brewery. Drive past the main entrance to the brewery and park in either of the fields located South of the bridge next to the brewery. Watch for cyclists!
